Finals..

My photos are based on my thoughts and memories in the United States. Even though my topic is very abstract to others, using trees, light bulbs and myself, I expressed what I felt and what I realized in the United States.

First photo is tell my first impression of the United States. Everything was huge and high that I felt like I can't even reach it.

Second photo is tell my effort. I want to show the 'hope or goal' by using a light bulb and showing my hand that express my feeling that I eager to get that.

My third photo is about my disappointed feeling, fears, sadness.... wandering.. The reason why I used light bulb again is because I disappointed by my hope, goals and something that originally looked shiny and good to me. As change the color, I wanted to show my fears and sadness.

For my fourth one, I used the ground with tulip's petals and myself. I overlapped both photos so that express my toughness life in the United States. I closed my eyes and almost cover all my face by my hair.

Blog Prompt #26

1. Type twenty words or phrases that relate to your project.
Loneliness

Loneliness
Solitude
Relationship
Warm
Cold
Eyes
Silence
Fear
Happy
Memory
Restroom
Big
Center
Creative
Sad
Sorrow
Enjoy
Mystery
Sensitive
Melancholy

2. Divide your project into three components. Rearrange and reassemble them in your mind.

Three components would be my memories, my feeling, and camera angles. Rearrange those?? hmmmmm.. I guess currently, I am focusing on my feeling but when I rearrange my three components, I would say using camera angles, I would capture my memories and using lighting( Even though I didn't write it .... it's important for my project) I will express my feeling.

3. Expand your project. If time, money, materials, etc would not affect you, how would you expand your project?

I definitely visit where I have been through in the United States. Wyoming, Las Vegas where I lived… I definitely visit there for my project.

4. At the deepest core, describe why you like this project. Dig deep!

First of all, it’s about my story… I am so glad that I can tell my story using photography. Even though I really like to talk about my story but since English is my second language, I think photography can convey my thoughts and my feeling more directly and attractively to people. My topic is about the United States and me. I think my project has some kind of flash back process that I can think about my past deeply than before.

5. What is the “opposite” of your final project? How can you rework your project to include the “opposite”?

Opposite would be future in the United States. Basically, my project is about my past feeling in the United States.. So, for the opposite would be capturing my thoughts or my life in the United States. It would be fun that the last photo deals with my future in the United States so my project flows from my past to my future.

6. What would happen if you demolished your project and reconstructed it physically or conceptually

This can be fun activity. I have something in my mind always that if I captured a building, I will construct same looking building on the top of my image. I might use this kind of process for my project if I can reconstruct my photos physically.

7. Remove something from your project. How does it change?

My project is about my memories in the United States. If i remove 'my memories' from my project theme, it would be just talks about the United States as a subject... So.. my memories and even my feeling have big part of my project.

8. Think of one of your most memorable dreams. How could you add elements from this dreams to your project?

Too much memorable dreams making me complicated for this question but one dream just pops up. This is not a good and sweet dream but it's horrible nightmare.. at that moment, I couldn't continue to sleep. It's about my father that he saved me and he ..... anyway... it's about dream and.. I cried too much in dreams and until when I woke up. I might add dark, sorrow, something that represent hopeless or anything that represent sadness elements. I might use rain affects for my photo or strong contrast.... so that gives really dark side for some part of my image.

9. What is a consistent theme/visual element in your project? What would be the opposite of this? How can you implement that into your project?

I might use same style that I mostly did for my assignments. Specifically, minimalistic, simple, warm but cold at the same time. I might use color and light for express my memories and using camera angle tells the United States as a subject. Opposite?? hmmmmm... as I tried for my assignment 5 I might get out from my own 'style box' and experiencing about different sources and different color and lighting style for my work. More vivid and more strong contrast can be the opposite side for my project. Implement can be light, angle... using same implements with my original but making opposite end can be one of the method for my opposite project.

10. What would your project look like 100 years ago? What would your project look like 100 years in the future?

HUGE DIFFERENT. Since I am foreigner, I think my perspective would completely different than right now.. not only my perspective but also American people so I think I would felt different feeling from the United States in 100 years ago and I think I would experienced very different things at that time.  My project can be completely different story in the future. I think if I make my project in 2111, I probably will talks about nature for my project; nature in the United States. The reason for that is because, environment can be the most concern for our life. Therefore, I think I will deals with destroyed nature in the United States rather than my memories in the United States.. for my project...

Final Images for Assignment 5

Composition: Combined two images, one with wine bottle, and the other one is branches image. Used only natural lighting and adjusted by the Photoshop. I cropped it because I want to show only transparent spot of the bottle.

Concept: Nothing special but I just want to show some kind of surrealism and mystery feeling from my photos.

Method: Took photos of wine bottle and took a photo of sky with branches. Used the Photoshop to change the color that way it looks more pure and clean.

Motivation: Since I love playing around with colors and contrast, I want to playing around some kind of pure colors like transparent color, sky, water and so on.
Context: I think this image can be open interpretation to viewers. I personally think that this image is represent some kind of pureness but at the same time the darkness of our life. transparency and color can be represent pureness and wine bottle and the shadow can be represent dark side of our life.

Composition: Combined two images, one with wine bottle, and the other one is branches image. Used only natural lighting and adjusted by the Photoshop.

Concept: I want to get out from specific style that I usually did past assignment. I want to exaggerate the color so it ended up with like this. Even, I tried to focus on unstable or frighten for my theme.

Method: Took photos of wine bottle and took a photo of sky with branches. Used the Photoshop to change the color that way it gives different perspective than before.

Motivation: When I looked at all the comments that I've got from my class, I think it would be good idea to change my style just for be unlimited artist.
Context:Compare with first one, I think this image has sorrow or fear feeling. This image can be use as some kind of advertising for the bad or wrong thing that we shouldn't do.... for example, cigarette, alcohol and so on.
Composition: I took sky picture with the sky and I changed little bit of color by using Photoshop.

Concept: I just want to focus on my style.. I never thought specifically about what I want to do or what I should do but it always ended up with some pastel tone photo.

Method: Took a photo of sky with branches. Used the Photoshop to change the color and make branches darker so that gives nice contrast there.

Motivation: I focused on what I always ended up with. Since I take sky photo very often, I wanted to use sky for my constructed assignment.
Context: Many professional photographers taking sky for their work and when I always see their pictures and when I take some photos of sky, I can't make a clear definition for the sky. It always make me exciting about taking photos of sky and it's the reason why I often take photos of sky.

Composition:I took wine bottle at low angle. Changed color with Photoshop. Used natural light.

Concept:This is another try for get rid of my style. I don't mean that I don't like my style but as I mentioned before, just trying to be more experimental?? person.

Method:I set my camera on the ground and took it only bottom part of wine bottle.

Motivation: I got motivation from my classmates' comment. It just give me another try to take photos and try different style for editing my photos.
Context:Nothing special but color can change mood, feeling, perspective and almost everything so we need to handle color more carefully.

- The why pick this artist is because of his idea of color expression. His vivid color expression is very attractive and it tells specific feeling in specific location.

Keith Lewis

- This artists' photographs give some kinds of surrealism feeling and even the image of children's classic story. I understand that the theme is not good for children's classic story but the tone and some blurry technique reminds me classical book cover.

Justin Walker

- I think this artist has specific meaning for setting those props like that. Nice color choice for the background. This artist choose pastel tone color for the background and it increase attraction to viewers.

Paul Weiner

- When you look at this artists's photographs, you will think you are in city in the ocean floor. Because of the lighting, it gives surrealism and mysticism. Even though color tone is   red, it not only gives warm feeling but at the same time it gives cool and pure feeling to viewers.

M Benedicte Varley

Written Assignment 4

Interpretation: Overall, people liked my postcard-type image which I took the miniature figures of Egypt people. People interpreted my photo from lighting, tone, or other technical values. Since my photos has some light tone value, people interpreted my pieces as peaceful, calm feeling and polished.

Evaluation: I think I will work on Polaroid types of image which look like soft and bright.

Extension: As one of my classmate mentioned, I think I need to broke my boundary and go further. I need to experiment more so that help me to improve my skill of expression by using photography. I really like the word 'minimalism' so .. I might keep working on my photos as look minimalistic.

Barbara Kasten is one of the preeminent photographers working today. For the past 30 years, Kasten has created elaborate constructions. Barbara Kasten lives and works in Chicago.
She studied painting and textiles at the University of Arizona (BFA) and the California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland (MFA) before transitioning into photography.
Her work from the early 1980s she was working with constructs with geometric objects, mirrors, and wire. Of this body of Polaroid prints,She consider her work as a process that transforms itself into something else.  According to her interview, she mentioned about how she approach to her final work. Beginning with a simple, transparent, non-representational form, I create the image as I work through the possibilities of sculptural and lighting combination to a new point of perception. She doesn't want to call her works as abstract or modernism but she wants to put in concrete category and since she has background of constructions, I think she has own way that she wants to approach.
